Author Frymer-Kensky, Tikva
Title In the Wake of the Goddesses
Women, Culture and the Biblical Transformation of Pagan Myth
Lishtar's Review

The first seven chapters and Introduction constitute perhaps the most scholarly and complete study of the Divine Feminine in Ancient Mesopotamia. Rarely is such a blend of Assyriology, Biblical and feminist scholarship so masterly put together, remarkable for its vigor and conviction, a classic in all aspects.
By analysing the Divine Feminine in Mesopotamia, Frymer-Kensky shows the marginalization of goddesses, and how the Judeo-Christian religion ended up finally embraced a view where the Divine Feminine disappeared to give way to the eternal bond between the Father and the Son.

I highly recommend this book, and sincerely believe it is a classic difficult to be replaced for many years to come.
